Subdividing hairpins
Hairpins and their relationship to dynamic indications such as 'f' or 'pp' is an area where most programs fall flat on their faces.

Igor, however, has built-in expert knowledge to avoid collisions and to flow the dynamic indications according to the topology of the music.

To show you a typical edit situation involving hairpins, consider this:

Suppose you want to refine this a bit and insert a dynamic indication mid-way. Just position the edit cursor at the position where you want the new indication:

Then press 'f':

As you can see, Igor inserts the forte marking as desired, but Igor's expert intelligence also sees the hairpin and divides it into two, as required by the new notational situation. If you had typed 'ffff' instead, the second hairpin would have been a diminuendo, since Igor knows that 'ffff' is louder than 'f. Also, if you remove the forte marking, the two hairpins would join again.
