Igor
Movies
About playback: The sounding demos were captured
from the computers' QuickTime playback and compressed to make the
file sizes smaller. When you use Igor to play this back on a more
sophisticated synthesiser there will be a world of difference.
In case your
computer (Macintosh or Windows) doesn't have QuickTime installed,
you can download it here:

Creating
a layout (181KB)
Simply drag and drop instruments from the instrument library to create
parts and scores. |
 |
Undo
& Redo (389KB)
Igor has infinite Undo and Redo, per piece. You can at any time jump
to a previous or later position simply by selecting a command from
the History menu item. |
 |
Multiple
language support (92KB)
Igor has built-in support for six languages. Every piece has a main
language, and when you move instruments and musicians between pieces,
the instrument names and score nomenclature will adapt accordingly |
 |
Slur
input (52KB)
This is how easy it is to enter slurs along with the notes: just press
a key where it starts and press that key again where it ends. Igor
knows where to position a slur when there is a marking already on
a note and when the slur moves if you place a marking such as a staccato
or an accent on a particular note after the slur has been put in place. |
 |
Slur
dragging (78KB)
Change your mind about where a slur should go? Just grab it and drag
to the note you want. Igor automatically reformats the slur and avoids
collision with any articulations or notes. It also warns us when a
note is out of range for an instrument by drawing it onscreen in red. |
 |
Slur
playback (249KB) with sound
The effect of slurred staccato notes on a violin, and some dynamics
just for fun. |
 |
Glissando
playback (216KB) with sound
Listen to a white key glissando, followed by a black key glissando,
on a piano. (Igor knows about these things.) Note also that Igor ignores
the key signature, just like a pianist would. |
 |
Glissando
input (52KB)
Adding a glissando to a note is as simple as pressing one key. Watch
how the glissando indication changes when there is more room for text
along the glissando line (and of course, glissando lines automatically
avoid accidentals and augmentation dots). Sizing a bar is as simple
as dragging the barline left or right. Just grab and drag. |
 |
Trills
(189KB) with sound
The first trill on a will be played back as a trill between A and
B, while the other trill on a will be played back as a trill between
A and B flat. Listen carefully when you play back the music a second
time, and you will find that the trills are not of the exactly same
speed: The first flutist's solo trills sound a tiny bit different
from each other. The difference in the play back of trills is perhaps
more apparent when you hear both flutists playing trills at the same
time. The difference, almost unnoticeable the first time the passage
is listened to, adds a great deal of realism to the music. |
 |
Reger
(123KB) with sound
Listen how a ritenuto indication sounds on playback. Igor recognizes
it and slows down. It also recognizes the a tempo indication and resumes
the previous tempo. You have the choice of two soundtracks here: either
the captured and compressed QuickTime
sound track (492KB), or a professionally-sounding Roland
MOC-1 AIFF version (724KB). |
 |
Cross-staff
notes (51KB)
Moving notes or chords to adjacent staves is easy. This movie shows
how quickly you can cross-staff music to other staves, and how intelligently
beams adapt when dragged between the cross-staffed entries - no special
tools are necessary. |
 |
Moving
staves (64KB)
This movie demonstrates how staves can be moved up and down on the
score paper, one by one or collectively. |

Tristan,
Act III (4MB)
Igor Engraver's playback quality is without par on the market. With
Igor Engraver, what you see in the score is what you get when you
press 'Play' - perfect legatos, hairpins, harmonics, automatic tempo
changes, accelerandos, ritardandos, glissandos, microtones - it's
all there, plus Artificial Intelligence algorithms to interpret the
music the way a real human would. To listen to an example of the extraordinarily
realistic playback that Igor Engraver gives you, we've provided this
stereo MP3 recording of the prelude to the third act of Wagner's
Tristan und Isolde, played by Igor Engraver. No extra postprocessing
has been done. This is Igor Engraver playing directly from the score,
using its powerful default settings. The synthesisers used are a Roland
JV-1010 and a Roland JV-1080, both with Orchestral Expansion Cards. |
 |
Jazz
chords (308KB)
Igor Engraver can format jazz chords with superscripts and subscripts,
real accidentals, triangles, circles, root degrees, brackets, parentheses
-- everything the jazz musician needs. This movie shows you an example
of how easily a complex jazz chord is entered and formatted with Igor
Engraver. |
 |
TAB:
Automatic Fretting (55KB)
Igor Engraver automatically calculates the fretting for you, avoiding
collisions. In this example, note how alternative frettings can be
produced at the touch of a button, allowing you easily to find the
most suitable fretting or to show your students how a chord can be
fretted in different ways. |
 |
TAB:
Multi-voice intelligence
(34KB)
In this two-voice example, note how Igor Engraver detects that the
two voices cannot be played on the same string and warns you of the
fact. Note also how moving the voices up a step allows another string
to be used, making the passage playable. Igor Engraver knows about
these situations, letting you produce playable tablature always. |
 |
TAB:
Changing string assignments (37KB)
Changing the string assignment in Igor Engraver is easy: just press
a key, and Igor Engraver moves the note to another string. This video
shows you how. |
 |
TAB:
Refretting (219KB)
It is incredibly easy to change the fretting of a passage in Igor
Engraver. In this example, a passage in a Bach fugue is selected.
Then the minimum fret position is changed to the third fret: Igor
Engraver intelligentely recalculates the fret positions. Then, the
same operation is done again, changing the minimum fret position
to the fifth fret and disallowing open strings. Again, Igor Engraver
instantly recalculates the fretting, using its built-in intelligence.
|
 |
TAB:
Changing tunings and adding strings (207KB)
With Igor Engraver, it is trivial to change the tuning of the instrument
or to add or delete strings. Igor Engraver automatically recalculates
the fretting. |
 |
TAB:
Multiple TAB staves(179KB)
Igor Engraver's tablature functionality is completely dynamic -
change the music, and the tablature changes. You can even have multiple
TAB staves reflecting the same music -- for instance, one for a
guitar with non-standard tuning, another one for five-string banjo,
another one for steel guitar, and so forth. With Igor Engraver,
adding a TAB staff is just a simple click away.
|
 |
TAB: Bend hats, slides, string indications (104KB)
Creating bend hats and bend arrows has until now only been available
in the DOS program 'Score', and even then it has been extremely difficult
and time-consuming to produce. Now, it is available in Igor Engraver
- this film shows you how anybody, even a novice, can create professional-level
bend arrows in seconds. Naturally, they update dynamically as you
edit the music, just like everything else in Igor Engraver. |
 |
TAB: Fret indications (44KB)
This video expands on the previous one and shows how easy it is
to add fret indication lines in Igor Engraver.
|
 |
Staff suppression (251KB)
When automatic staff suppression is turned on, empty staves will be
suppressed dynamically. However, you can still walk up and down your
score using the arrow keys -- as you do, the corresponding instrument
will appear on screen, allowing you to enter music, which will cause
the instrument not to be suppressed anymore. Note also that staff
suppression in Igor Engraver 1.5 is smart -- it is applied per instrument,
not per staff. This means that a multi-staff instrument, such as the
harp or the piano, will either be suppressed in its entirety, or not
at all. You can of course override this behaviour if you like. Igor
Engraver 1.5 features the smartest and easiest-to use staff suppression
logic on the market. |
