Pär Lindgren Professor of Composition, Royal University College of Music in Stockholm In my dual capacity as a composer and professor of composition I have need of a notation tool for professional as well as for educational use. A tool which makes it possible to work at any level of complexity. For far too long, users of notation software have had to contend with programs that either are too simplistic or extremely convoluted and slow and therefore hinder rather than help. Too much valuable time has been spent on extricating oneself from the technicalities of these programs; side-issues which have absolutely nothing to do with efficiency and creativity. After having used various notation programs for almost two decades I am rather fed up with blunt tools. However, Igor™'s fundamentally clear structure, user-friendly interface and wealth of features shows that the solution is finally on its way. Peter Bengtson's competence, both as a composer and as a programmer, coupled with his striving towards perfection, speaks strongly in favour of a successful product. My personal experience of Peter as a colleague at the Royal College of Music -- where he taught and also developed software within the field of algorithmic composition during the 80s -- allows me to look forward with great expectation and optimism to Igor™, which finally will provide composers, arrangers, students and publishers with a really useful notation tool. |
