Palettes Some of Igor's palettes are shown to the right. Even though there are quite a few of them, they tend to be used mainly by novices, simply because note entry is so fast and so easy. For instance, to input the dynamic "sfffzppp", all you do is type those letters during music entry. Sometimes, however, the palettes come in handy, but they are never the sole means of adding a musical symbol. |

The Tool palette: this palette contains tools for manipulating the formatting of layouts, to change instruments (which may be done mid-staff, if need be), to create slurs, glissandos, tuplets, etc, and also to create time signature, key signature and tempo changes. You can also see tools to create hairpins, ties, arpeggios and other markings. There is also a dedicated harp tool, used to create harp mode lists and pedal indications. The Clef palette: contains some of the more commonly used clefs. There are more. The Note palette: contains notes, rests and augmentation dots. Note that there is both a breve and a longa available. The Accidental palette: chromatic alterations may be input using this palette, if need be. It includes all the standard accidentals, but also tools to create bracketed accidentals, and microtonal accidentals. All are transposed correctly. The Playback palette: controls playback of the music in the current layout or piece. It can be expanded to show detailed timing data. The Wien palette: this small palette contains some useful symbols invented by the Second Vienna School. They too have playback behaviour. The Notehead palette: contains the most commonly used alternative notehead symbols. There are more. The Dynamics palette: this palette contains a few common dynamic indications. This palette is mostly used when applying dynamics to several staves at one and the same time. The Articulation palette: handy combinations of the standard articulation symbols. The Attachments palette: frequently used symbols attached to notes and rests. The Barline palette: various barlines, including repeats and barlines to break consolidated rests in part layouts. The Text palette: different types of text associated with notes and rests, staves, systems and pages, as well as rehearsal marks. |
