20th/21st Century Music
Igor Engraver was
written by contemporary composers, which means that the special requirements
that the music of our time puts on music notation are uniquely integrated
into the program.
For instance,
no other program offers you completely integrated handling
of microtones, including quartertones and sixth-tones. It is part of the
basic machinery in Igor Engraver to the extent that you can even transpose
passages by microtonal intervals, not just semitones.
It also means that microtonal accidentals are built into Igor Engraver
right from the beginning. And Igor Engraver doesn't force you to use the
traditional Romantic tonal way of notating accidentals. You can choose
from four different methods:
|
|
Traditional - accidentals apply for the duration of the bar.
Second Viennese School - accidentals are used on every pitch
except for repeated notes.
Modernist - accidentals apply only to the pitch to which they
are attached and any immediately repeated pitches. Naturals are not used
except for clarification.
Salzedo - accidentals only apply to the pitch to which they
are attached, but not to any repetitions of the same pitch. Naturals are
never used.
